Australian citizens, permanent residents or their immediate family members who have been in South Africa, Lesotho, Eswatini, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, or Malawi in the last 14 days must enter supervised quarantine for 14 days in line with state and territory requirements, on entering Australia irrespective of their vaccination status.

Any other travellers who have been in these countries in the 14 days are not permitted to enter Australia at all.

Otherwise, as announced earlier, fully vaccinated Australian citizens, permanent residents and eligible visa holders can travel to and from Australia without needing to apply for a travel exemption from December 15.

If you are traveling to Australia, check out the list of vaccines and their dosages recognized by the government of Australia

  • Two doses at least 14 days apart of:
    • AstraZeneca Vaxzevria
    • AstraZeneca Covishield
    • Pfizer/Biontech Comirnaty
    • Moderna Spikevax or Takeda
    • Sinovac Coronavac
    • Bharat Biotech Covaxin
    • Sinopharm BBIBP-CorV (for 18-60 year olds)
  • Or one dose of:
    • Johnson & Johnson/ Janssen-Cilag COVID Vaccine.

Special arrangements and exemptions have been made for children that enter Australia. Children under the age of 12 are considered as fully-vaccinated for travel purposes and the children aged between 12 and 17 are allowed to travel with fully vaccinated adults. Travellers are strongly advised to check the state or territory quarantine requirements before they plan their travel to Australia.

Travellers who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons should produce proof of a medical exemption and the proof should be again in line with the requirements of the state or territory they are travelling to.
